As a Christian parent, you know that building a strong relationship with your child is so important. One of the best ways to do that is to get to know them better – to understand their dreams, their fears, their hopes, and their struggles. But sometimes it can be difficult to know where to start, especially when you’re trying to navigate the hectic pace of everyday life. That’s why I’ve put together a list of 300 questions to ask your child to get to know them better. These questions cover everything from their relationships with friends and family to their faith and their hopes for the future. So whether you’re looking for a fun conversation starter or trying to build a deeper connection with your child, this list is a great place to start. Let’s dive in!

Oh and p.s. the dreaded “how was school today” is no where to be found in this list. I’m giving you questions that kids will actually want to give a real answer to.
What Are Some Fun Icebreaker Questions?
Let’s get started with a few questions that will get the conversation flowing and grow your confidence in asking questions and really hearing your child’s answer. One of the best things you can do after you ask one of these get to know you questions to your child is to bite your tongue and listen. Even if you have to actually bite your tongue to remind you to stay quiet and hear what they have to say.
After your child has answered it can be helpful to rephrase what they said and then repeat it back to them. So if your child says, “I guess I like it most when you play my video game with me but I know you hate doing that.”, you can respond by saying, “You like playing the video game with mom! I didn’t realize that. What do you like about it?” In the moment you may have wanted to defend yourself against your child saying you don’t enjoy playing with them but the best communication practice is to keep the focus on the person that you are wanting to know better, in this case your child. If you do want to address the accusation then open-ended questions that are free from judgement are your best bet. You could respond with, “You feel like I don’t like playing video games with you. What makes you feel that way?”

What Questions Can Get Kids Talking?
As Christian homemakers, one of the most important things we can do is cultivate a strong relationship with our children. It’s the best thing we can do for them and for ourselves. The dinner table is often the first thing that comes to mind when we think of having meaningful conversations with our children, but it’s not the only place. The car is an excellent place to get kids, especially older kids, talking to you. Because the pressure is off to face one another and make eye contact you may find that even your most stubborn child will open up more during a drive.
Asking the right questions and being a good friend to our children is a great way to open up lines of communication and build a relationship that will last a lifetime. Building a strong relationship with our children is one of the hardest things we will ever do as parents, but it’s also the best gift we can give them. When we take the time to get to know our children and connect with them on a deep level, we create a bond that can never be broken.

What Do You Talk About With Kids?
Asking open-ended questions is an excellent way to get our kids to open up and reveal more about themselves than they would with one-word responses. We spend the whole day asking a lot of questions as parents, but sometimes we forget to ask the best questions that will help us connect with our children on a deeper level. When we ask serious questions that require more than a one-word answer, we show our children that we care about them and are interested in what’s going on in their lives. In today’s world of social media and digital distractions, taking the time to ask the right types of questions is more important than ever. It can be the hardest thing to do as parents, especially with older kids who may be more guarded or independent, but it’s the best way to get a glimpse into our child’s mind and heart. So, let’s take the time to ask the best questions and foster meaningful conversations that will strengthen our relationships with our children for years to come.
